Putin wants govt to secure support of AI research centers by 2030
MOSCOW, Sep 7 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the government to support artificial intelligence (AI) research centers till 2030, according to a decree released on Thursday on the Kremlin’s website.
“The government of the Russian Federation is to ensure till 2030 fulfilment of support measures of research centers’ activities in the sphere of artificial intelligence by paying special attention to the necessity of their studies to optimize the algorithms of machine learning and computing processes, including those related to the development of large language models and technologies of generative artificial intelligence,” the document read.
The government is to report on the matter till December 1 and later once a year.
Putin also ordered the government and the Russian Academy of Sciences to monitor the efficiency of spending on research in the AI industry with a report to be delivered by November 15.
The government is also to consider till December 1 formation of conditions for the development of supercomputers, including benefits for the national producers of components.
Russia is now the world’s ninth by volume of computing capacities of all supercomputers.
The president also ordered the government starting from 2024 to introduce the Artificial Intelligence Systems module in the higher education and qualification programs gradually.
The government is to take additional measures till March 1, 2024 to raise the AI competences of specialists of the key industries.
